[Character Name] Ashura
[Canon] RG Veda
[Point Taken from Canon] Vol. 9: Chapter: Twin Castles in Flames and Thunder I (Just before 5 of the 6 Stars reach Zenmi Castle to confront Taishakuten. This is before the very last seal on Ashura's true nature is broken.)
[Age] 300, but he looks 10~13
[Gender] Ashura had no biological sex and no real set gender (however, because English has no gender-neutral pronoun, I'll be using "he" because using it "it" is awkward)
[Sexual Orientation] See above, makes this kind of a moot point (however, he does have a most important person already)
[Eye Color] Gold
[Hair Color] Black
[Height] Guessing here but about 4'9"
[Other] Light skin, long pointed ears
[Clothing] Long white tunic/robe, belted with a wide black belt, gold necklace with red sphere ornament, black gauntlets at the wrists and ankles, barefoot. Hair pulled into a high ponytail with a gold and red hair ornament holder. Example image here.
[Background] See Application
[Personality] Ashura has somewhat of a split personality. The main bulk of it is a sweet child who cares very deeply for the people he loves and takes on a huge burden of guilt over all that happens supposedly because of him. He worries a great deal about the people around him being strong enough so that they won’t be hurt by associating with the cursed child of the Ashura clan. So many people die around the kid, who can blame him for assuming that’s the norm? Especially when he’s told by multiple parties that it is his fault. This is done mostly by antagonists and unfortunate victims, but it makes no difference to Ashura who tells him it’s his fault, just that it is. As a result, he’s very conscious of the well-being of those around him and while outgoing, is nervous to let people get close until he’s sure they can take care of themselves (not that that helps any of them in the end >.>).
However, despite all that guilt and worry, he’s still a very friendly, trusting, sweet child. Through most of the story, he really is just a kid still though he’s thrust into a very dangerous and serious situation. He wants people to like him; in fact he thrives on affection of any kind and strives to please the people he looks up to. Being wanted and having a place to belong among others are huge concerns for him. He’s innocent and asks awkward simple-but-complicated questions just like any good little kid should, and thinks about food. Oh, does he ever think about food. Ashura likes to eat. Constantly hungry to the point that in canon they will have just finished eating not five minutes before he’s claiming to be hungry again. And like any child, he can get a bit bratty sometimes as well as stubborn. Mostly the brattiness comes from the way he reacts to being teased, doing such mature things as name-calling or sticking his tongue out in return. Though once, he even picked a fight with another boy for being picked on by the other. It also shows in his slightly childish, but understandable, bitterness toward his twin brother who having had much better circumstances, was loved and wanted all his life, in contrast to Ashura who was cast aside and hunted down. He understands that isn’t his brother’s fault which shows a little maturity, but he still feels hurt over it and holds onto that pain. Despite this though, he had wished they could be family and had truly wanted to meet him.
The other part of Ashura’s personality is the darker side that lurks within the innocent child. This is considered his “true” nature: that of a god of death and destruction that would destroy the heavens, sealed within him. This part of Ashura revels in pain and death and seems to completely disregard any feelings he had for others before he is unsealed. In fact, he outright slaughters one of his companions just after the unsealing who’d followed after him in concern for the child. He then goes on to just kill his way through the castle until he reaches Yasha (the only person who might possibly be able to reach the child who Ashura used to be and remarkably he does). There are points peppered throughout canon before the seal is fully released on Ashura where this part of him does leak through. Generally it was in times of crisis or when Ashura’s powers were being tapped into more deeply. After these moments though, when Ashura came back to his senses, he never remembers these moments as his “other self.”
Okay, so Yasha. Yasha is important to Ashura’s personality so I’ll mention him briefly here even if we may never get him in the game. He is the man who woke Ashura from his 300 year sleep and then cared for the child and protected him through it all despite knowing that is was prophesized that Ashura would kill him one day (though their love for one another changed that future). Yasha is easily the most important person to Ashura and the nature of their relationship to one another is both very simple and complex in that they love one another, but how that love is acted upon between them changes throughout the series (such as the relationship between a guardian and their charge with fierce protective love to a love that is much like that between tragic lovers by the end of the series).
[Specialties/Abilities] Ashura has an ability to produce and control fire. Think like mid-large scale fire spells as an equivalent. The larger scale attacks usually only happen if his seal is slipping, which it does in dangerous situations. Also, in canon, near the beginning, it was shown when he was too young to defend himself in a truly dangerous situation, that his body/powers will react on instinct and protect him in a large nigh-impenitrable coccoon. When Ashura emerged from these, he had aged by years at a time - I'm guessing as a way to make him more capable of defending himself from then on. This will likely only ever happen the once in Somarium and will be accompanied by no aging.
He also has Shura-to, his sword, which is kept within himself (his body is its sheath) and he can summon it at will. This sword has the ability to show the identities of the Six Stars of Heaven as well as has a resonance/connection with Yasha's sword Yama-to.
Ashura in essence is truly a god of death and war and while this is kept sealed, most of the seals by this point in canon have been broken. However, most times his true nature won't need to reveal itself unless Ashura is in extreme distress or danger. (Though there may be times where he will say something a little odd or dark as parts of that inner nature slip through randomly as well.)
Also, he's a bottomless pit. I'm not joking. Bottomless.
[Affection] Ashura is very very affectionate. Hugs and innocent kisses are to be expected. Cuddles and climbing on people he likes are things he is used to doing. He likes his hair played with too.
[Fighting] Normally Ashura would like to avoid fighting, but if it's for something he wants to protect, this little one can actually hold his own pretty well. Using fire and his sword, he's a fierce determined little god, heh.
True Ashura will most definitely be up for fights, but be forewarned, Ashura's powers are stronger in this state and he's kinda scary. Picking a fight or getting into a fight with this aspect of Ashura can lead to much more dangerous of a fight.
In terms of permissions, I'm fine with people picking fights with him, but would appreciate a poke for plotting/planning beforehand and/or during.
[Other Permissions] Telepaths are okay, empaths are okay, for anything plotty or serious, please check with me first. 4th walling is okay only with discussion about it and as long as the rest of his canon outcome isn't revealed to him. I'd rather Ashura not know how much worse things will get for him and the people he cares for... ^^;
But all in all, I'm open to an awful lot as long as it can be discussed/plotted, feel free to poke me on AIM or via e-mail or LJ PM!
[Other Facts] Ashura's sword, Shura-to, is a clear blade. Don't ask me the logistics of that, but it looks pretty awesome that way.
Also, don't call him a piggy, heh. It will get a flailing god yelling at you to not call him that.
